NEC SL1000: How to Setup 3rd-party SIP phone for NEC SL1000

As mentioned before in my earlier blog posting the NEC SL1000 Smart Communication Server supports both NEC IP phone 24TIXH & 3rd-party SIP phone (RFC3261); both hard/soft phones.

Here are the steps to setup 3rd-party SIP phone for NEC SL1000;
  • Hardware Required:
    • VoIP board (IP4WW-VOIPDB-C1) – Mandatory
    • Expansion Memory card (IP4WW-MEMDB-C1) - Mandatory

  • Software Licenses Required:
    • SL-IP-SIPEXT-1 LIC  (Initial system loaded with 4 licenses, need to buy for the 5th phone onwards, max. 16 quantity)

  • Programming Steps required in NEC SL1000:
    • Network Setting
    • Define the IP address of the VoIP card under PROG10-12-09
    • Define the Subnet Mask of the VoIP card under PROG10-12-10
    • Define Default GW of the VoIP card under PROG10-12-03
    • Define the IP address for the DSP resource in VoIP card under PROG84-26-01 (*note: IP address should be in the same network as the IP address given under PROG10-12-09)

    • SIP Port Setting
    • Define the SIP Port to be used by the SIP phone for registration under PROG84-20-01, set to 5060 (since this is the standard port used for SIP, certain softphone by default is already set to 5060)

    • Reserve Number for the SIP phone
    • Go to Menu bar, click on 'Programming' -> 'Unregistered Phones' -> 'IP Phone List'
    • Check-marked the extension you want to be used for your SIP phone
    • Take note of the MAC address of your SIP phone (hard phone), for softphone the MAC address is your PC loaded with the software
    • Go to PROG15-05-02 and input the MAC address for the reserved number used for your SIP phone

    • Set the Necessary Settings in your SIP phone
    • *Note: Ensure the SIP phone is in the common network as the NEC SL1000 (VoIP), try to ping to it first
    • Set the SIP Registrar IP address (IP address of the VoIP card)
    • Set the SIP extension number
    • Set the SIP extension password (just set it as your extension number, since authentication is by pre-defined MAC address in the NEC SL1000 system)
    • Reset your SIP phone
Now the 3rd-party phone shall be able to register to NEC SL1000 and this phone is able to make calls, receive calls to/from NEC SL1000 analog/digital/IP terminals
