One of the great feature of the NEC SL1000 is the Mobile Extension feature. This feature gives the user mobility access meaning that they are always contactable via their mobile phone. Below shows you the overview of the usage of this feature, Mobile Extension;
  • Feature: Mobile Extension
  • Operation Overview : The user mobile number is registered to the NEC SL1000 system and this user shall be able to receive both internal/external calls via his DDI number (ISDN number). This gives the user the mobility feature whereby they are always contactable via their office number instead of their own personal mobile which gives them privacy. Mobile Extension feature is a little bit similar to DISA (Direct Inward System Access) service but without the need to enter password.
  • Operation (Receiving Calls): Callers (internal/external) will dial to this user's DDI number given by the user. Upon receiving the call at the NEC SL1000 system it will recognize that the call for this user based on DDI mapping will need to be re-directed out (via System Speed Dial method) to this user since he is a Mobile Extension user. At the point the user's mobile phone will start to ring, and he will see his own DDI number as Caller-ID. Based on the calling ID, he knows that this incoming call is call coming from his office (meaning business call). When he pressed the Answer button on his phone he will hear MOH/system tone, at this point he will simply press * to answer this call (voice communication). Since he is a SL1000 user, he is able to perform basic phone features like hold the call, transfer to another number, etc
  • Operation (Making Calls): The Mobile Extension user will first use his mobile phone and dial in to his own DDI number. The NEC SL1000 system upon receiving this call and based on his calling ID information he is identified as a Mobile Extension user and the system will give him a second tone, system tone (similar to DISA without the need to key in password). At this point this user is virtually as if he is in his office, he is able to make a internal call, seizure the trunk to make an outgoing call, call his voicemail system, etc
  • Good for users: Office workers who are always on the move, Sales Staff
  • Good for Office: Since there may be certain office workers who are allowed to make mobile claims (both local and international calls), the company can better control the tariff cost for making overseas calls by requesting the user to call back to the company SL1000 system and from there make an overseas call where there is better corporate rating for such calls
  • License Required: Yes. Default comes with 4 licenses, additional licenses can be purchased for up to 32 defined Mobile Extension users
  • License: SL-SYS-MOBILE-1 LIC

I strongly feel that this feature is a very good feature whereby mobility access is extended to users via the public network whenever there is network coverage.
