What is NEC SL1000 all about?

The NEC SL1000 Smart Communications Server was launched recently in the world by NEC Corporation around Feb 2011. In fact there is a series for the product in different region, we have the SL1000 (in Asia, EMEA) and the SL1100 (in America). Collectively they are known as the NEC SL1000 series range of key telephony systems.

The major difference between SL1000 and his brother SL1100 is that for SL1000 the extension ports are all hybrid, meaning that the installer can plug in an analog or digital phone into the port and it will work for both cases. As for the SL1100 there is a clear distinction in terms of extension ports; analog & digital extensions ports.

This SL1000 series enables customers to have remote extensions through the use of NEC ip phone 24TIXH type. This is really a good feature for customers who have satellite/remote offices hosting a few numbers of staff.

The target market segment is the smaller than SMB market, with maximum support of 128 users. The pricing of the SL1000 is also very economic bearing in mind of the small business owners who needs a smart office communications tool yet at the same time is cost effective and easy to use.

In terms of market competition SL1000 major competitor will be the Panasonic KTS systems. Both of them are Japanese brand with a long history of good and quality built voice communications system. As such most of the time the primary deciding factor for the customers would be the price and design of the phone sets.

Personally I feel that with the recent launch of SL1000 and the UNIVERGE SV8000 series, it truly target all the enterprise users, from the very small users 2-3 all the way to large organizations < 5000 users, with strong seamless phone features in a networking environment. Do give me your thoughts on this new product from NEC, the NEC SL1000 Smart Communications Server.
